چکیده
Coagulant aids are useful chemicals that enhance the efficiency of coagulation sedimentation treatment. For this purpose, it is necessary to choose safe avoid various risks health those who use treated water. The chitosan, an abundant natural polysaccharide, as a coagulant aid significant not only for water treatment but also effective utilization unused resources, which mostly wasted. We experimentally determined optimal conditions using chitosan in most efficient was identified adding at stage rapid stirring after addition accelerated initial dispersion. When used with main polyaluminum chloride (PACl), concentration 0.8 mg L−1, estimated ζ potential showing isoelectricity concentration. Determining minimum valid estimating optimum extension method much higher turbidity, seen wastewater. Thus, potential-based prediction even when effect sweep coagulation, normally induced negligible. superiority PACl combination demonstrated by comparing situ-observed process cases other coagulants and direct time-series observation process. found make flocs easier remove because resulted largest mass fraction resultant floc on bottom vessel. Chitosan as a Drinking Water Treatment Coagulant
Inorganic aluminum or iron salts have been used for many decades to coagulate colloidal particles in surface water prior to flocculation, sedimentation and/or filtration. Although effective, inorganic coagulants have several disadvantages including large chemical dosages required for treating eutrophic waters, large volumes of chemical sludge produced, and toxic effects of metallic coagulants o...
متن کاملChitosan Coagulation to Improve Microbial and Turbidity Removal by Ceramic Water Filtration for Household Drinking Water Treatment
The use of porous ceramic filters is promoted globally for household water treatment, but these filters are ineffective in removing viruses from water. In order to increase virus removal, we combine a promising natural coagulant, chitosan, as a pretreatment for ceramic water filters (CWFs) and evaluate the performance of this dual barrier water treatment system. Chitosan is a non-toxic and biod...
متن کاملDrinking Water Treatment: a Neural Network Model for Coagulation Dosing
The aim of this paper is to present the development and validation of a neural network model for on-line prediction of coagulant dosage from raw water characteristics. The main parameters influencing the coagulant dosage are firstly determined via a PCA. A brief description of the methodology used for the synthesis of neural models is given and experimental results are included. The training of...
متن کاملA comparative study of prediction models for Coagulation process in drinking Water Treatment Plants
Coagulation process is an essential part of drinking water treatment operations. The jar test is a widely-used laboratory procedure to determine the quantity of coagulation chemical dosages for water treatment plants. However, the test is not effective for real-time control of this process due to the nonlinear behaviour and rapid variations of water quality parameters. In this study, empirical ...
متن کاملElectrospun Quaternized Chitosan Fibers for Virus Removal from Drinking Water
Membrane filtration has become an accepted technology for the removal of pathogens from drinking water. Viruses, known to contaminate water supplies, are too small to be removed by a size-exclusion mechanism without a large energy penalty. Thus, functionalized electrospun membranes that can adsorb viruses have drawn our interest. We chose a quaternized chitosan derivative (HTCC) which carries a...
